Join Us For Homecoming 2015 – August 2nd @ 10am
Pastor Trad York and congregation would like to invite you to join us on August 2nd of this year as we celebrate over 165 years of God’s faithfulness to the congregation Waldo Baptist Church. It all begins at 10am (no Sunday School that day or evening services). Our guest speaker this year is Bro. Ricky Cunningham from Hardin, KY. Bro. Ricky is the Sr. Pastor of Hardin Baptist Church. Ricky has seen God bless the work at Hardin Baptist over the years and is known regionally for his faithfulness to preach God’s Word and his heart for evangelism.
Our music this year will be provided by Mr. Richard Buchanon. Richard is the current worship leader at Calvary Baptist Church in Paducah, Ky and the former worship leader of Waldo Baptist Church. We look forward to having Bro. Richard with us this day!
Dinner on the grounds will follow our morning worship service in the Family Life Center located directly behind the main Church auditorium.
For your interest, a little history lesson:
Waldo Baptist Church began in the year 1850 in a location then known as Sycamore Plains, in Pope County, Illinois. Today this is part of the Shawnee National Forest with the only remaining reminders of the Church’s location being the tombstones which marked the graves of the cemetery outside the church. Since that time it held its meetings in a school house, and a Masonic Lodge building which was located across the road from the present location.
In 1977, Waldo Baptist Church voted to build a new sanctuary building at the present location. This building was completed in December of that year and the first service was held on that Christmas Sunday. Since then, God has blessed us with two other buildings, a Family Life Center with commercial kitchen, classrooms, gymnasium, and a youth building used for youth worship and Bible study. We have also added property and an outside pavilion with playground equipment for our children. Because of the grace and goodness of a Mighty God and the faithful service of many wonderful members, we stand today as one of the largest churches in Massac County with modern facilities.
We hope you will plan now to join us on this special day.
